About Suie Lodge Hotel
Lying in an area of outstanding natural
beauty, Suie Lodge Hotel is a building of
architectural and historical interest situated in
its own attractive grounds of 5 acres midway
between Killin and Crianlarich on the A85 route
north to Oban and Fort William. For directions
please see the location page.
Originally a shooting lodge on Breadalbane
Estate, the hotel derives its name from its
association with St. Fillan, who had his seat
('suie') of learning at this place - across from
the hotel is an ancient Clan MacNab burial site
where lies a stone on which is carved a Latin cross
which may go back to St. Fillan himself. St.
Fillan's bell (Bearnan Fillan) was kept at Suie for
centuries but now rests in the Scottish National
Museum of Antiquities.
Today Suie Lodge is a comfortable
family-run haven of good food and cosy
accommodation, much appreciated as a touring centre
by families and as a welcome stop by ramblers and
hillwalkers. The hotel is fully licensed with a
fine range of malt whiskies, and provides a wide
range of popular bar lunches and
suppers.
Good
home cooked food using local ingredients is
served in the bar or dining room. Drying and deep freeze
facilities are available for walkers and fishermen.
There is central heating throughout.
There is a relaxing roaring log fire in the
bar during those cool winter evenings.
There is an abundance of interesting
visitor attractions in this area of Scotland and
the Suie Lodge Hotel is a convenient base from
which to go touring. The nearest village is Killin
where the River Dochart becomes the spectacular
Falls of Dochart as it divides then crashes through
a picturesque expanse of rocks. Loch Lomond is
within a 20 minute drive as is the stunning
splendour of Glen Coe. We are blessed with stunning
lochs and mountains, cultural and historic riches,
an abundance of wildlife, and flora surrounding
us. You will not be short of things to see
and do during your stay with us, and can be assured
of a warm comfortable room, a delicious meal, and a
dram or two, if you wish, on your
return.
A
cash point and post office can be found in
Killin.
